Concert: Hole

This past Wednesday, we went to see Hole in concert. I've been a fan of Hole since the early '90s when there were still good rock bands alive (in my opinion). Going into the concert, I thought I knew what to expect. A sober Courtney Love most likely only singing songs from Hole's latest album "Nobody's Daughter", but it was totally different. She was good.

Courtney Love, at 46 years old can still belt out a scream like she could over 15 years ago like on Hole's album "Live Through This". During her concert, she chain smoked, arrived late, had some ramblings, but was very interactive with the audience. She seems like the type of person, that if you ran into her on the street, she would talk to you as if she'd known you for years.

She talked about her latest album, took requests, covered a Nine Inch Nails song, did an impromptu performance of a song that wasn't even created yet, sang all the oldies but goodies, and mentioned the great Kurt Cobain.

She also mentioned VH1: Behind the Music that had recently aired the Monday before the concert and did say "it explained a lot", and it really did. She's had it rough her entire life and is still swinging to fight the good fight. I think I understand her, her music and her decisions a little better.

Overall, it was a pretty good concert even though she's the only original member from the Hole lineup, but the best part was that the concert took me back. It took me back to my days of baby doll dresses with Dr. Marten's, loud rock music, smoking with my friends and hoping to not get caught, and the other typical teenage angst that I was able to get through while listening to "alternative" and "grunge" music (quote unquote haha).

If you ever run across a Hole or Courtney Love album, take a chance and listen.
